We are a USA Gymnastics Member Club

Who is USA Gymnastics?:

USA Gymnastics is the sole national governing body for the sport of gymnastics in the United States. They set the rules and policies that govern gymnastics in the United States. In addition to selecting and training the U.S. Gymnastics Teams for Olympic Games and World Championships, they also promote and develop gymnastics on a grassroots and national level, and serve as a resource center for member clubs, fans and gymnasts throughout the United States.

What is USA Gymnastics' Safe Sport Policy:

Athlete safety and well-being are USA Gymnastics’ highest priority, and the USA Gymnastics Safe Sport Policy is one of the most powerful tools the organization has for athlete protection.

The Safe Sport Policy requires mandatory reporting; defines six types of misconduct; sets standards to prohibit grooming behavior and prevent inappropriate interaction; and establishes greater accountability.

We are a Mandan Parks & Recreation Partner Sport

DSG functions with the support of the Mandan Park District, though we are our own separate business entity with our own separate management,  employees and board of directors. MPD provides DSG with many supportive benefits, such as advertisement across their various medias, inclusion in their events, etc and now by allowing us to rent the beautiful new Midco Gymnasium at the Starion Sports Complex.  We are extremely grateful to the Mandan Park District for their direct and indirect support of gymnastics over the past decades. They are a huge part of Dakota Star Gymnastics' success story!

Class Mobility

Gymnastics is a sport that greatly challenges both your child's body and mind and requires athletes to accomplish skills in a fairly specific, progressive order to be successful at the higher levels. This is not an activity where instant gratification is the norm, but, because of this, your child will learn perseverance, resilience, determination, the ability to work towards a goal, and the ability to complete a task from start to finish.

There is no "normal" time-frame in gymnastics. Because this sport requires a lot of strength, coordination, and repetition in order to be successful, your child's advancement is a direct reflection of how strong he/she is physically, how much natural and learned coordinated he/she has, and how many days per week he/she practices gymnastics with the appropriate supervision. Please take into account that this sport is very difficult and can be "scary," so your child will also need to be mentally strong as the skills become more challenging. Expect that your recreational level child may spend multiple months or possibly even until he/she enters the next age group learning to safely and correctly perform all of the needed skills at each level. Your Team level athlete may pass through multiple competition levels in one season or may spend multiple seasons in the same level depending on her focus and growth patterns; as her body changes, skills may plateau or even regress until she relearns how to use her "new" body.

In our recreational levels, we require a few specific skills to be mastered at each level (i.e. accomplished alone with great form and technique) as well as many other skills to be near mastery before moving on to the next level. This is for the safety of both your gymnast and our coaches, as it can be dangerous for the athlete AND the spotter to perform skills that the athlete is not physically or mentally ready to attempt. Your child must also demonstrate a positive attitude without self deprecating comments, without "I can't!" attitudes, and with a respectful demeanor towards all coaches and classmates. Please confer with your coaches throughout your child's gymnastics journey; they can give you their perspective of what your child needs to focus on during class and how close he/she is to the next level.

In our Team levels, we require our gymnasts to be proficient at their level per USA Gymnastics' standards before they enter the competitive arena. Because gymnastics judging is very subjective and the children are literally judged on every movement they make, we believe that being well prepared for competition will preserve and help build our gymnasts' self-confidence. Our "Invite Only" recreational classes (Xcel Prep and Pre-Team) work specifically on the skills and routines needed to compete USA Gymnastics sanctioned Level 3 or Xcel Silver.

Dakota Star Gymnastics is its own independent entity that functions with the support of and in association with USA Gymnastics and Mandan Parks & Recreation.
